FAVORITE OF:   SUSIE SMART

My daughter-in-law, Susie is a magician in the kitchen!  Sweets are her speciality and her house always smells of fresh baked yummies.  Here is the recipe that she uses to turn out the lightest, best tasting cinnamon rolls you will ever find!

Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients:

Dough:
1/4 oz package yeast
1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup scalded milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
1 tsp salt
1 egg
1 tsp baking powder
3 1/2 - 4 cups flour

Filling:
1/2 cup melted butter
3/4 cups sugar
2 tbsp ground cinnamon
Pecans or raisins (optional)

Glaze:
4 tbsp butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
3 - 6 tbsp hot water

Instructions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees.
In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside.
In a large bowl, mix milk, sugar, melted butter, salt, and egg.
Add 2 cups of flour and baking powder and mix together.  Add yeast mixture.
Stir in remaining flour and knead on floured surface for 5 - 10 minutes.
Place in well-greased bowl and cover.  Let rise in warm area until doubled in size (approx. 1 1/2 hours).

Punch down dough and roll out on a floured surface into a 15 x 9 inch rectangle.
Brush with melted butter.  Mix sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over dough.
Sprinkle nuts, raisins, if desired.
Roll up dough beginning at 15 inch side and pinch end together to seal.  Cut into 12-14 slices.
Coat bottom of pan or dish with butter and sprinkle with sugar.
Place cinnamon roll slices in 13 x 9 inch pan.  Let rise until double (approx. 45 minutes).
Bake for 30 minutes.  Let cool 5 minutes before glazing.

For glaze, mix together butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla.  Add hot water 1 tbsp at a time until smooth.
Spread over slightly cooled rolls.

HEAVENLY!
