Healthy Changes for Spring

WalkingSpring is literally around the corner. The warm temperatures and bright sunshine will begin to lure us out of our winter caves. What a perfect time to start a daily walking program!

How many times have you made a mental commitment to begin a regular walking program, yet your body never bought into the idea?

Today is a new day!

The advantages of walking on a regular basis are numerous: Weight loss, toned and strengthened muscles, shared walking time with loved ones, lowered blood pressure and/or cholesterol, and decreased appetite.

Walking also reduces stress, helps us to be more mentally alert, and gives us an overall sense of well-being.

Plan Your Strategy

Sit down with a calendar and deliberately make a written plan of action. On specific dates, write the distance or number of minutes that you plan to devote to your exercise. Upon completion of each daily jaunt, indicate your accomplishment by circling the date with a pen or marker.

Therefore, your written calendar will serve as both a reminder and a documentation of achievement. Your dream will transform from a vague idea that will happen “when you get time” into a structured plan for your day. Lack of a plan permits us to stay in a dreaming or planning phase, rather than embarking on a course of action.
