THE FISHERMEN

sad womanHow much energy do you spend feeling discontent, anxious, sad, or bored?  Would you like to feel energized, fulfilled, and purposeful?  Me, too!

Luckily, I don’t have to look far to find a pattern to follow in reaching this goal!  My dear husband is a fairly quiet man who doesn’t ask for praise or applause, yet is a master at finding ways to bring joy to others.  He would literally give you (or anyone else) the shirt off of his back!

Real Fishermen are Serious About the Sport

Wayne loves (and I mean LOVES) to fish!  He approaches the sport as though it were a science.  He considers each lure, hook, pole, line, and sinker in the minutest detail to entice a fish with every cast.  Fishing is serious business to this fellow!  In fact, conversation is not part of his fishing agenda.  At times, I have even wondered if his fishing trips are really “fun”! crappie underwater

Hubby all but keeps a diary with pictures of his trophies and he can recount the steps he took in landing the catch.  He even has crappie.com pen pals who are as interested in knowing the details as he is in sharing them.

A Good Hearted Man

Now that you recognize the seriousness of his addiction, I want you to appreciate the good heartedness of the man.

Just yesterday, he invited two older gentlemen (in their 80’s) to join him on his boat.  After making the one hour jaunt to the lake, the trio boarded the pontoon and set out for an afternoon of tranquility.

To be truthful, I was a bit uneasy about the elder gentlemen realizing Wayne’s dedication to successfully dragging in a “big catch”.  I secretly wondered if they were invited on the trip to triple the limit on the number of fish that could legally be captured that day.

No Need For Worry

Upon Wayne’s return, I realized that my worry was unfounded.  Wayne chattered like an excited school girl about the fun the three had experienced on the water that day.  His conversation was not directed at the methods of capture or the number of keepers jerked out of the lake.  Instead, he recounted pleasurable remarks made by the seniors and told humorous stories that will remain etched in the memories of these good men as long as they live.

The Best Things in Life are not Things

fishermen on Greers Ferry LakeI garnered 3 important lessons from this infamous fishing journey:

(1) True happiness comes in GIVING to others, rather than bemoaning what we want and can’t seem to acquire.
(2) Simple actions show sincere love.
(3) I want to be more like Wayne.
